Sunset on Rockley Beach, 2019
This is an oil painting that I recently completed for my wife, Kay, which brings back happy memories of our trip to the Caribbean in January – February 2019. We stayed at the Accra Beach Hotel and Spa for the last few nights after the one-day games in Bridgetown, Barbados, had finished and the England and West Indies cricket teams had vacated this hotel! We arrived at this resort just in time to take photographs of Chris Gayle, Jason Holder and Shimron Hetmyer. The England squad were already on their coach with the exception of Jonny Bairstow. The sunsets in the Caribbean are truly amazing with great reflections in the water and on the wet sand. Rockley Beach, just to the south-east of Bridgetown, is no exception. At one end there is the Champers Restaurant on the cliffs overlooking the beach. My painting depicts the view looking west at the other end of Rockley Beach. If you carry on walking along the shoreline you reach Hastings and from there it is only 2 miles into the centre of Bridgetown.
